History
The history of the modern company THEMELI S.A. is closely linked to one of the oldest and most pioneering engineering companies in Greece, ELLINIKA TECHNIKA ERGA S.A., which was founded in Athens in the previous century and distinguished itself through its significant contribution to public and private projects across the country. This historic company later merged with THEMELI S.A.
Specifically, ELLINIKA TECHNIKA ERGA S.A. was founded in 1923 by Periklis Triantafyllidis, a civil engineer graduate of the National Technical University of Athens, and became a major pillar of the construction sector in Greece for several decades, contributing significantly to the country's reconstruction and development.
During the interwar period, the company carried out numerous projects in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense and the Hellenic Navy General Staff, including road construction works and the construction of many public and private buildings. Among these were hospitals such as KAT, Agios Savvas, and Aglaia Kyriakou, as well as the Army Share Fund building, the Palace Hotel, and the renovation of emblematic buildings such as the Athens Court of First Instance and the Bank of Athens building on Stadiou Street.
In the post-war period, the company actively participated in the reconstruction of Greece following the end of the civil war, undertaking major road projects such as the Thessaloniki–Turkish border highway, as well as important building projects including refineries in Aspropyrgos, industrial facilities, hospitals, universities, and more.
In 1995, the company merged with the newer but rapidly developing THEMELI S.A., which had been founded in 1986 by Dimitrios Dinopoulos.
Following the 1995 merger, the expertise and activities of the historic company were fully integrated into THEMELI S.A., which continued its dynamic growth, expanding its activities in infrastructure construction while also entering additional business sectors.
