With the declaration of WWII a period of inaction follows, during which Greece goes through the hardships of the war and later the civil war.

On January 1950 the Periclis Triantafillidis company acquires by decision of the Ministry of Coordination the special class E' contractor's degree for participating at tenders for reconstruction projects and thus presents itself, for the first time after the war with the construction of two main national roads axis's CORINTH ARGOS TRIPOLI and ARGOS NAFPLIO — realized within the frame of the Marshall Aid Plan and with equipment which had been ceded to the Greek State by the U.S.A.

The buy-out of Gemme SA, a drilling and mining unit, affiliated company of ETVA, brings in the expansion of the company's knowledge and experience in deep drilling, exploiting mineral reserves, research and geotechnical drillings.

The Hellenic Technical Works company merges with Themeli SA, a high-class certificate company, successfully active in the construction market since 1971. The expanded Themeli SA moves in its privately owned office building of 3.000 sqm, in Kapodistriou Av, the company's present headquarters.

The company constructs large public infrastructure works, water and sewerage systems (Naflpio, Kos island), river and streambed arrangements (Kifissos, Podoniftis), bridges (Aliakmona, Enipea), tunnels, and more.

Themeli SA continues its active part in the construction industry, enriched in manpower, advanced equipment and know-how, always faithful to the principles the company has set and followed through its long course.

The construction of wide scale underground military installations follow and one section of the main motorway between Thessaloniki and the border with Turkey, which later is known as the EGNATIA ODOS.

Except the above projects many other significant ones have been constructed: the Hellenic Aspropyrgos refinery, hotels, hospitals, education and University campuses, industrial buildings, athletic centers, office buildings.

and European projects

1993

The new Athens-Thessaloniki dual railway line commences. Themeli S.A. constructs, for the new line, prestressed bridges of considerable length above the Aliakmonas river, at Eginio, Pieria prefecture and the Enipeas river, at Orfana, Karditsa prefecture, which are financed by the "young" at the time European Community.

1993 AIGINIO, Pieria: Aliakmon river bridge for the Athens–Salonica double railway line, 850m long. Foundation on shaft piles, diameter: 1.20 m, length: 63 m.

1994 ORFANA, Karditsa: Tunnel and Enipeas river prestressed bridge, 350m long, for the Athens–Salonica double railway line.

1998 ISTHMOS CORINTH: Elefsina–Corinth high speed railway underpass.

1999 AGRINIO, Fthiotida: Construction of dams and ditches for the flood protection of the Amouriozileuto–Vanokladi area.

1998–99 Larissa bypass highway — Gyrtoni interchange.

1998 MITILINI, Lesvos: Construction of sewerage network of rain and foul water supply of the central and northern section of Mitilini.

With the major projects programmed from the year 1998, which are financed by the 2nd European Community budget, new road trajectories are planned such as the EGNATIA ODOS, the IONIA ODOS and others.

2000–2004
2000

The country's rail network is modernized with the improvement and upgrade of the existing Athens-Salonica dual railway line in order to increase train speed to 160 km/h and after the replacement of rail material to 200 km/h.

INOI, VIOTIA — Track laying between the railway stations of Inoi (km 72+000) and Tithorea (km 165+000). The project, of a total length of 93 km, included major technical works.

The construction of a SLAB TRACK section at the Tempi area is a project for which special know-how was needed, because the SLAB TRACK system consists a new development for the construction of railroad line networks, applied in Greece for the first time.

According to the RHEDA CLASSIC method, the track sleeper grid is embedded into concrete, contrary to the method where the sleepers are laid on ballast. For the construction, special tools and machinery were used, manufactured by THEMELI's mechanical section.

2004 — Upgrade of the railroad line between the railway stations of Corinth–Andritsa (78.10 km) and Argos–Nafplio (10.60 km), for train velocities of 100 km/h. The old railroad tracks and wooden sleepers were replaced with 54 kg/m type rails and concrete monoblock sleepers.

Modern tram at the major area of Athens. The project commenced from the centre of Athens towards the Palaia Faliro area and is expanded today, with new contracts, at the regions of Glifada and Voula.

PIREAUS IKONIO port, Perama — Construction of a tunnel of approximately 3.5km length for the connection of sea routes with the rail network. During the excavation the presence of carbon dioxide was detected, coming from the neighbouring rubbish dump, which required special project management and use of ad hoc concrete.

2005 PARAVOLA, Agrinio — Underground watering network, ~30km length. The project included the construction of pumping stations, controlling water tanks, complete electromechanical equipment, and paving of the neighbouring rural roads.

2005 KALAMOTI, Chios — Clay core earth dam, ~500m length and 500,000 m³ volume. Its waterproofing was made by the use of a grouting carpet.

MESTA, Chios — Port modernisation, new breakwater ~600m length. Modernisation of the existing land zone and construction of a new one of approximately 30 acres area, complete electromechanical equipment and facilities, connecting road with the port and auxiliary building facilities.

2009 AIGIO, Achaia — Double railway tunnel, 3.252m underground, three escape tunnels. THEMELI S.A. constructs the western part of a 1,140m long underground section, 223m long escape tunnel and the hypaethral works of the western entrance (cut and cover, pile wall, side road, building, E/M facilities).

2010–2013 Resilience
and new horizons

2010–2013
2010

2010–2012 The outbreak of financial crisis in Greece had direct impact on the activities of construction companies. As the new projects and tenders have practically stopped, the company goes through a "dead" period and only deals in completing previous projects. The company continues its activities with Public Power Corporation in Agrinio and Ioannina and in addition starts the same activities in Athens Northern Area.

Despite the crisis, the company maintains its integrity and continues operations without reductions in personnel out of respect to its employees and managers.

THEMELI seeks co-operations with asian countries such as Israel, Iraq, Kurdistan etc and has come in contact with construction companies to undertake projects in these countries.

In October 2012, an extremely important project is completed, after going through a lot of difficulties regarding the suitability, permitting, environmental complications: the 17 MW first wind park of THEMELI in Xirovouni of Nafpaktia, (average altitude 1,500 m) Western Greece, starts operation.

The works to the park started in the fall of 2010, initially constructed the access road and the road inside the park. Construction stopped during the next winter and started again in April 2011. Late in spring of 2012, the wind generators arrived at the port of Messolongi and were transported to the site.

Road construction within the park for a total length 3.5 km, and improvement of asphalt road from Nafpaktos to Platanos.

Twenty wind generators GAMESA G52/850kW with 52 m impeller diameter and 44m base height and installation of a 4d meteorological mast.

Erection of Control building and de-snowing station.

Two 20 kV independent lines for the transportation of generated power to the transfer station. The length of each line is 23.8 km, 2.3 km of which is underground.

A transfer station 20–150 kV, built in 5 levels with 2 control buildings.

2013 Not without obstacles, two new projects have started, in which THEMELI is the sole contractor or in joint venture with others.

Extension of the existing tramway towards Pireaus from the terminal at Peace and Friendship Stadium.

Construction of the road "Northern Axis of Crete" (VOAK) from Gournes to Hersonissos.

Construction sites are already set up and works are imminent.
